Booking & Session Instructions for Newborn Photography
Contact me at any time during your pregnancy to give me an estimated due date, I will then make a tentative booking & when you arrive home from the hospital with your brand new baby you can contact me to arrange a suitable time & day for your session.
My studio is located in Pflugerville, Texas. My style is timeless and unique. I only do natural poses. I am always up to date with my flu and pertussis vaccine. I am trained and insured. I am a non smoker. I shoot with a Canon Mark IV and use a Canon 35mm 1.4 lens. I use natural and studio light.
The best time to photograph a newborn baby is when they are under 7 days old. Newborns are very “mold-able” at this time as their bones haven’t fused and are filled with a pliable cartilage. They are also very sleepy and this is how i am able to pose them. You can contact me at any time during your pregnancy to give me an estimated due date, I will then make a tentative booking and when you arrive home from the hospital with your brand new baby you can contact me to arrange a suitable time and day for your session. Of course, if your newborn has to spend any time in the NICU we will work with whatever time frame we're given. Once your session is booked i will have a phone consultation with you on how to prepare for your newborn session.
About your session
Newborn photo shoots are 1-3 hours depending on how many images you purchase. This allows time for light checks, fabric changes, feeding, soothing, posing and cleaning up any accidents. I have been properly trained on posing a newborn baby. Every newborn is different and not all newborns pose the same. I never force a pose and if I feel that your newborn is not comfortable in a pose I will move to the next pose. At all times I watch for pressure to their trachea, larynx and any loss of circulation. Your newborns safety always comes first. Newborns are always posed to hide their private areas in your portraits. Proper caution is taken with the umbilical cord and a circumcision while posing your newborn.
Outside props are not allowed. I shoot in a very modern timeless style and my prop styles are in my portfolio. Please do now ask to bring props. If you'd like to use your own props i kindly ask that you book with another photographer. I do not like photographing gimmicky setups that distract from making beautiful portraits. I only want to photograph your beautiful new baby and all those speacial little details. These are heirlooms and will be past down for generations so its important that i shoot in a timeless style and not in a current trend.
Clients are not allowed to sit or stand in the shooting area unless you are assisting in a composite shot. You may take behind the scenes photos as long as you ask before coming in the set up area. Please do not schedule other arrangements or appointments on the day of your session. Newborns must be under 7 days old on the day of their session. Cellphones must be kept on vibrate during the session.Only guest that are having their portraits done are allowed at the session. Young children are not allowed unless both parents are present. This is for their own safety as I will need your full attention on your newborn. This also ensures the shoot goes smoothly without any interruptions.
I ask that all cellphones are kept on vibrate as too not startle the baby when they are in a posed position. You are more than welcome to order a movie or use my computer. You can bring a book or your work stuff with you i have an area for you to use. No one is allowed directly in the shooting area unless they are being photograph. Sessions can take up to 2 hours. Please bring your payment in cash on the day of your shoot if you have not already paid in full.. Please do not bring anything containing peanuts as i have a child with a peanut allergy.
Day of Shoot
Please keep your baby awake 1 hour before your session. This is extremely important. If your baby does not sleep during flow posing then i can't properly capture images. If you are bottle feeding please bring supplies and extra formula. I do provide bottle water and I have a stove and microwave to warm milk. If you are breastfeeding feel free to bring your boppy pillow and privacy blanket. If your newborn has a pacifier please bring it with you. Please bring breast pads and sanitary products. If you have had a c-section please bring your pain medicine with you.
Wash your newborns hair the day of your shoot. This is very important as oily hair will not photograph well. If your newborn has had a circumcision you may apply vaseline to the area. Do not put any oils, powder or desitin on your newborns skin or hair. Please remove any band aids prior to shoot.
Please bring your newborn in only a diaper. This allows them time to adjust to being naked during their shoot, however, you may bring an outfit to dress them in after their shoot. Please do not put beanies or headbands on after the hair is washed. Give your baby a long feeding right before you leave for the session.
I keep my studio at 80 degrees. This insures that your newborn is kept warm at all times. Please wear comfortable and light clothing. I provide a space fan for parents.
Please eat before the shoot and bring snacks and beverages of your choice. Please also have a snack available for any children being photographed.
During the session you may relax on a big comfy couch and rest or watch movies while i work with your new baby in the same area. There is a private bedroom for resting or breastfeeding if you'd like more privacy.
Everyone should have washed hair as oily hair does not photograph well. Ladies please wear your hair down. You may curl or straighten it but avoid clips bows and ponytails as these will not properly photograph well at certain angles. If you'd like to wear makeup please apply it very lightly. Heavy makeup does not photograph well. I take the time to fix any skin issues you might have. Feel free to play up your eyes and lips! Gentlemen please be clean shaven or groomed. Photoshopping individual stray hairs is a lot of work on my end. As far as clothing you don't need anything fancy, simple is best. Neutral colors will look and photograph the best. Avoid wearing the same color top and bottoms as your spouse and child. Ladies should avoid wearing the same color top as your hair color. Example is if you have blonde hair do not wear a yellow top. Avoid bright colors, stripes, patterns, large prints or logos. You can find photoshoot clothing color palette ideals on Pinterest.
